Description

Merida is located to the north of Yucatan State in México and it is known as the white City, colonial and traditional city for his constructions characterized by his white frontages, the cleanliness of his streets and the white clothing of his habitants. The big majority of this population descends from the Mayan and they preserved their history. Nowadays, the Mayan language keeps on prevailing in spite of being a half-caste city, and the most typical thing and that cannot be left behind is his typical kitchen with the original ripeness and with a little of Caribbean ambience. The pride of Merida is the well-known Paseo de Montejo in honor to Francisco Montejo who founded Merida in 1542 twenty years after the fall of Tenochtitlan .

In Merida it is possible to visit the Museum of the City, Museum of contemporary art with permanent exhibitions, the House of Montejo in which it is possible to observe his portal of sculpted stone and adorned with statues, the Palace of Government which is the lounge of the history and corridors adorned with murals, the Theater Peon Contreras with his neoclassic, built style decorated by Italian architects and artists, and that is one of the principal forums to spread the culture, and in the surroundings of Merida and part of the peninsula of Yucatan there prevail approximately 2040 archaeological zones in which you can find infinity of impressive traces as Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Valladolid, Route Puuc, etc.
